Über dieses Album habe ich eigentlich schon alles hier im Blog gesagt. Eins meiner Favorites in 2013. Umso besser, dass jetzt 2014 die logische Schlussfolgerung, nämlich die Platte auch in 12" zu pressen endlich erfolgte. Und um dem Ganzen noch das gewisse Etwas zu verleihen, haben die Leute bei BACK ON BLACK wirklich alles in die Platte gesteckt was ging. 180 g feinstes Vinyl als Double Gatefold LP mit der kompletten POINT OF NO RETURN EP von 2012. Halloohoo? Wie geil ist das denn bitte?!!



SONGWRITING 5/5
Thrash Metal wie du Ihn besser nicht machen kannst. Die alten Herrschaften von Metallica, Slayer und Co. wären froh, sie könnten heute nochmal so ne Platte veröffentlichen. Alt bleibt genial, aber jetzt ist es Zeit für die neuen Wilden. ;) 

SOUND 6/5
Soundtechnisch setzt diese Platte neue Maßstäbe und klingt nochmal besser als die digitale Veröffentlichung. Der Sound ist viel druckvoller als auf CD. Der absolute Wahnsinn!! God bless vinyl!! ;) Jetzt wird der Sound dem Album auch wirklich gerecht.

Durch die EP kommt die Platte auf eine Gesamtspielzeit von 68:22. Also über 1 h US Thrash vom aller feinsten!

Havok - Burn Vinyl 4/5

So as many of you Thrash Fux outside know, Havok released all their three records again as vinyl presses. I've ordered the "Burn" & "Unnatural Selection" LP because I have the original release of "Time Is Up" from 2011. So there are only the two other LP's which were missed in my Vinyl Collection.

Back on Black/ Plastichead did an amaizing job I tell ya! From the Gatefold to the vinyl itself, it's killer!! I'm through the Burn LP right now and the sound is amaizing. 10 times better than the CD version in my opinion!! So vinyl is still worth it. Maybe more than ever. Which not means, that the CD is crap. ;)

I bought the CD version back when it was released in 2009 I think. So this record accompanied me most of my NWOTM collecting times. More pleasing that it was now released in a wonderful 12" Gatefold Cover on a fine 100% 180 g pure vinyl. Could not be better than that.

SONGWRITING 4,5/5
It's just great. All this good arrangements, the soli-battles formed this album to one of the best at its time. And it still killes you by the first hit of the snare. I'm also still of the opinion, that the solis are one of the best they ever wrote 'til to this day. Also Shawn was the best cast on Bass I think. He did one of the bands best work on the second album "Time Is UP". I really miss him. Not only because he was a bad-ass bass player. He also was a damn cool guy.

SOUND 3/5
Rough is the first thing which came up when I think of the sound. In quality not so dominant than the further releases but also ground-breaking at its time.

In summery 12 songs, one of em just an intro but not bad for a first full-length. In total 49:23 100% Bay Area Thrash Metal in your face!

To me, it reflects perfectly the songs and the dynamic of this record. 

LAYOUT 4,5/5
The Back on Black Releases comes as a 180 g vinyl in a 12" Gatefold Cover. Great processing including all the lyrics on one side. A bit confusing, because the song titles are a little small. So you cannot immediatley recognize the individual titles. And this is maybe the only thing I could complain about it. ;)

All in all still one of my beloved records. 4/5 is not a bad view on it right?! ;)

THRASH-BACK 2013!!

So Thrashers,

das Jahr neigt sich wieder dem Ende... Wahnsinn wie die Zeit vergeht. Kommt mir so vor, als hätte ich gerade gestern noch das Jahr 2012 revue passieren lassen. Und alter Schwede was war das ein Jahr für uns Thrasher. Keine, aber absolut keine Wünsche wurden übrig gelassen. Schweren Herzens entscheide ich mich nun mal für meine absoluten Top 5:



OK, Platz 5 belegt bei mir eine Band, wie soll es auch sein aus dem Süden Europas. ULTRA-VIOLENCE aus Italien veröffentlichten ihren ersten Longplayer "PRIVILEGE TO OVERCOME" und der holzt dermaßen rein. Überragender Sound, geile Riffs, sollte in 2013 in keinem THRASH-Regal fehlen. Also noch eine sehr junge Band, von der wir in Zukunft sicher das Ein oder Andere Schmankerl erwarten dürfen.

Ultra-Violence - Privilege To Overcome

Platz 4 kommt ebenfalls aus dem Süden, jedoch aus dem Süden Amerikas. VIOLATOR brachten für mich dieses Jahr wohl mit ihr bestes Album "SCENARIOS OF BRUTALITY" raus. Im Januar 2014 kommt diese geniale Platte auch endlich als Vinyl-Pressung raus.

Violator - Scenarios Of Brutality

Platz 3 und nur eine haaresbreite an 2 vorbeigeschrammelt das neue Meisterwerk von EVILE "SKULL". Nach ihrem Debut "Enter the Grave" für mich das beste Album, was Evile veröffentlicht hat. Die Songs sind etwas eingängiger und ich finde, Matt hat am Gesang nochmal ne ganze Schippe drauf gelegt. Absolut geniales Teil und jedem der die Band spätestens nach Five Serpents Teeth abgeschrieben hat, empfehle ich hier mal ein Ohr reinzuhängen.

Evile - Skull

Platz 2 nicht nur aufgrund des brutalen Sounds, sondern vor allem wegen dem übertriebenen Drumming geht an die Thrasher aus Denver HAVOK. Mit "UNNATURAL SELECTION" finde ich, haben Sie sogar ihr 2tes Release "Time Is Up" minimal übertroffen. Wobei "Time Is Up" schon ein wahnsinns Album ist... Also echt ziemlich schwer da ne konkrete Aussage zu treffen. Im Februar, wird dieses Meisterwerk auf Vinyl erscheinen. Zusammen mit ihrem Debut "Burn", welches für mein Geschmack die bis dato besten Solis beinhaltet.

Havok - Unnatural Selection

Platz 1 geht unangefochten an die Newcomer des Jahres. Und die stammen aus Finnland. An LOST SOCIETY dürfte dieses Jahr wohl keiner vorbei kommen. Mit ihrem Erstlingswerk "FAST LOUD DEATH" dürften LS wohl alle Recorde brechen. Zurzeit sprießen auf Facebook Chapter Sites aus aller Herrenländer wie Unkraut aus dem Boden. Kein Wunder, denn diese junge frische Härte, die dieses Album so auszeichnet vermisst man leider viel zu häufig bei Neuerscheinungen. Das zweite Album ist bereits im Kasten und ich kann es kauf erwarten das neue Material zu hören. Selbst sehe ich die Jungs im Januar zum ersten Mal live. Kanns kaum erwarten zu Hymnen wie "E.a.G., Braindead Metalhead, Bitch, Get Out' My Way oder Piss Out My Ass" abzumoshen. ;)

Nicht zu vergessen, auch WARBRINGER, REVOCATION, CRISIX, ESSENCE, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, FUELED BY FIRE, GAMA BOMB uvm. haben dieses Jahr erstklassiges Material veröffentlicht.

Havok - Unnatural Selection 10/10

Long time since I bought my last NWOTM record so I went into the city last Saturday and bought Havok's Unnatural Selection.

So maybe some of you came up with the question: Why it took so long to get this record? Finally the album was released on 21. of June 2013...
Well I was waiting for a vinyl release but because I didn't heard anything about that until to this day, I couldn't wait any longer. I needed to know what the new record sounds like.

So when you first look at the producers name, you know this will sound like a head crusher. Amaizing sound, playful and musical a bit better than the previous release Time Is Up in my opinion. And Time Is Up was a monster of a new Thrash album!!

And if James Murphy is guilty as charged and he is responsible for the fine-tuning then horns up man. These little arrangements in Under the Gun, Waste Of Life are genious and fits in perfectly. 

As a drummer I must salute Mr. Webber once again. I mean listen to I Am The State. This drum part at the end of the song is so fantastic. You only hear that by Havok. It's a shame because there are so many good drummer around but Havok got it obviously.

My personal faves are I Am The State, It Is True, Under The Gun, Chasing The Edge and Worse Than War.

To me Havok is still one of the best new Thrash bands nowaday. There is now doubt about it! And I think they will get the last critic after this killer record.

I give Unnatural Selection a 10/10!!

I was lucky enough to see Havok live on the 5th of Mai 2012 with Jesse de los Santos on bass. One of the most intense Thrash gigs I've ever been in my life. And I'm through various gigs ;) Very nice and solid guys too. And they all signed my LP as well. AWESOME!!

So enough of the past, go and get their new release Unnatural Selection and mosh 'til you die!
